Before I joined Monadelphous as a Trade Assistant in 2009 I’d spent the last 15 years working as a butcher in Adelaide. I wanted to give working in resources a shot and was lucky enough to get a job working on a project just outside Darwin. Eight months ago I started an apprenticeship as a boilermaker.
I’ve lived and worked on site for the past three years and it fits perfectly with my lifestyle. We get well looked after and I have all my meals made for me, my donga is maintained - it’s a great life. I work on a four and one roster which means that I get a full week off do to what I want, most weeks off I go travelling or head back to Adelaide. Where it suits the work load I’ve been allowed to change my roster to working five weeks and getting an extra two days off.
I’m pretty early into my apprenticeship but I get to be hands on with the work, I learn better that way and the crew I work with are really good at offering advice and telling me how to do the job right. I really feel like I’m 'on the job' and involved in the project, getting stuff done.
Monadelphous really look after me, I feel really privileged to work here. When I am doing training in Perth they put me up and give me a meal allowance. My long term goal is to stay with the company, they have helped me so much and I feel loyal to them, can’t say enough good things about 'Monos', they are great company to work for.
