Celebrating National Reconciliation Week 2018
Monadelphous was proud to support National Reconciliation Week celebrations last weekend in Port Hedland at the community’s annual Reconciliation Week Concert. This year’s reconciliation week theme was ‘Don’t Keep History a Mystery’, aimed at encouraging Australians to learn more about the histories belonging to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Port Hedland event partner for the second year running, Monadelphous, helped bring main-act performances from Aboriginal artists Phil Walleystack and the Humidors and multi-award-winning duo, The Merindas to the event for attendees to enjoy, and provided a team of pro-‘barbequers’ supporting the town’s free sausage sizzle.
In order to celebrate and build on the relationships shared by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians, Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories, the significant amount of achievements made to date and how we are all able to contribute to a more inclusive community.
Monadelphous' commitment to supporting National Reconciliation Week is further articulated in their Reconciliation Action Plan, the most recent of which was launched on Monday, 14 May, and highlights its key focus on relationship building, supplier engagement, employment opportunities and cultural awareness training.
Many thanks to the Town of Port Hedland for hosting such a fantastic family event.
